文章首先表示，即便特朗普近期在“對等關稅”上有些許“找補”的緩和行為，市場仍然震蕩不已，因為政府做決策的基礎并非基于事實。而特朗普此番操作，實則得罪兩撥人。
一方是與美國的貿易逆差國；他們看似有很多機會能和美國達成協議，但實際上這是沒可能的。

呂勒感嘆：我們已經失去了大量的信譽和信任。
It’s safe to say the perch that we and our American exceptionalism sat on, even a few months ago, has certainly been lowered. 可以肯定地說，幾個月前我們和我們的美國例外論所占據的基石無疑已被削弱。 We have an agriculture secretary who tells us to build chicken coops because eggs are expensive. A defense secretary sharing military secrets in a private, unsecured group chat. We’re deporting people without due process. 呂勒表示，但讓我感到害怕的是，我交談過的每一位投資者，即使是那些支持總統的投資者，都給我同樣的信息：如果債券市場繼續(xù)下跌，這實際上會導致國家破產。
她接著說：破產，特朗普可是深諳其道。（注：特朗普從商期間數次破產卻東山再起。從1991年到2009年，特朗普旗下企業(yè)共經歷了六次破產重組。）
But what scares me is that every investor I speak with, even those who backed the president, gives me the same message: If the bond market continues to drop, that will effectively bankrupt the country. And bankruptcy is something Trump knows a lot about.
