The blackboard is something that is found in almost every school classroom. However, it is actually a recent invention. In the past, students and teachers would write on individual tablets made of stone or wood because paper and ink were very expensive.
Because everyone had their own small tablet, teachers had no way to present a lesson to their whole class, meaning they had to go to each individual student. It was not until 1801 that a teacher invented the first modern blackboard. He made it by hanging a large thin piece of stone on the classroom wall.
Even though some schools have introduced some technology into the classroom, blackboards still have advantages over complex modern technologies. They are cheap to make and effective. Another obvious advantage is that they are easy to use.
