In Shanghai, "Going to Night School after Work" has already become a fashion trend. In this international metropolis, there are also courses designed for foreign residents.

At the HICC in Minhang District, during the first Chinese Tea Ceremony Class, Mikhail, a Russian resident dressed in a light blue Hanfu, was fully engrossed in the teacher's demonstration. The process of brewing and tasting tea, immersed him in the aesthetic charm of Oriental Tea Culture.

Mikhail Avdee shared:" I'm Russian and in Russia, we also drink tea, but not like this, not that official. So this is my first experience of Tea Ceremony. It feels amazing. It feels elegant and very official. Every detail is important, how you touch the glass, how you move your hands, how you cover the glass. I like it, because it's very different compared to Russian culture and European culture. So in general, it feels interesting for me to get familiar with and know better and so far I like it."

A familiar face was also present. Angela, who participated in the Citizen Night School’s Blackpool Dance Course last year, signed up again.

Angela Petersen:" In the evening, it suits me time wise. Usually I'm busy with the children and now my husband's home, I can do my thing I'd like to do. There was a few things I tried to, I thought I understood, but I got it wrong so my partner is helping me. I also know her from the Blackpool. I've made a lot of friends here."

In the class, many Chinese and foreign students freely paired up as "desk mates" to learn together, and some previous students of the night school volunteered as on-site translators, fostering a welcoming learning atmosphere. They will systematically study the knowledge of Tea Ceremony and gain an in-depth understanding of the history and etiquette of Chinese tea culture.

As we Chinese say, 'making friends over tea'. Through this way, we can get closer to foreign residents and develop the Citizen Night School into a cultural 'reception room', so that everyone can make friends better through this activity, foster greater community integration through cultural exchange."
