A Journey Through Design, Archaeology, and Human Connection -

My pursuit of interior design has always been driven by a belief that it is more than just a profession. It acknowledges how we live, individually and collectively, in our shared world. Spaces are not merely built environments; they reflect how we navigate life, engage with one another, and find meaning in our surroundings.

For the past forty years, my practice has been a journey of self-awakening, exploring the essentials of living embedded in our subconscious. I have witnessed how commerce and travel intersect through hospitality design, shaping experiences that leave lasting impressions. Hotels, in particular, have served as both my canvas and my teacher, offering lessons on how space can foster connection, inspire movement, and elevate the human experience.

Now, I find myself in a new chapter: the study of archaeology. Where design shapes the present, archaeology uncovers the hidden narratives of human civilization. It offers a lens through which we explore past realities and better understand where we stand today. Commerce, in particular, has long been a driving force in shaping societies. Ancient trade routes laid the foundation for the modern global economy, transforming organic exchanges of goods, ideas, and culture into today’s highly strategic and digitized systems. Yet, I often wonder how much those ancient trade philosophies still influence our economic possibilities today.

Excavation is more than unearthing physical remnants; it is a portal to the imagination. Every artifact tells a story revealing how nature and the Earth have long inspired human creativity. As a designer, I find humility in these discoveries. They remind me that artistic expression is never separate from history, culture, or movement. Across time, artists have sought to capture the fluidity of life through fabric, sculpture, and painting using techniques that create the illusion of speed, transformation, and time itself.

Mythology and symbolism have also been central to artistic expression. Decorative arts have continuously drawn from mythical beings, nature, and even the deep sea, reflecting humanity’s desire to capture the unknown and reimagine the world through artistic interpretation. Similarly, nature has remained an enduring source of inspiration, with artists across cultures turning to the plant and animal kingdoms for motifs, patterns, and materials. Birds, butterflies, flowers, and foliage carry symbolic meanings that offer glimpses into diverse worldviews and aesthetic traditions.

The evolution of decorative arts and commerce reveals a profound truth: human creativity, trade, and cultural exchange are inseparable. The past continuously informs the present, shaping how we perceive and express the world. Whether through the myths we tell, the art we create, or the trade systems we develop, history remains an ongoing dialogue that humbles and inspires those who choose to dig deeper.

This journey of discovery continues, reminding me that the choices of individuals when woven together, shape the collective experience of civilization. Through this shared pursuit of beauty, knowledge, and meaning, we nurture the world we live in. And for that, I am grateful.
